Install Enhanced Security Technology at every campus
Replace campus fire systems that are more than 15 years old

Relocate playgrounds closer to the building, add perimeter fencing, and improve or update aging equipment at 26 elementary schools
Renovations and expansions on multiple campuses will eliminate 53 exterior portables currently being used for instruction.

Renovate and expand the JHHS fieldhouse to accommodate enrollment growth. The facility will include instructional space, public restrooms for outdoor sports contests, athletic locker rooms, and an expanded weight room. The fieldhouse was initially built for a campus with an enrollment of 1,300. Horn High School’s current enrollment is 2,800.
Adding classroom space and a storm shelter at Pirrung Elementary would accommodate enrollment and provide maintenance and updates to the 38-year-old building.
Built in 1995, Thompson Elementary has never undergone significant renovations and is currently at capacity. Additional learning space doubling as a storm shelter would address increased enrollment. The campus would also receive maintenance and updates.
Located in a fast-growing area, Smith Elementary has reached full capacity. The addition of classroom space would accommodate the increased enrollment and provide a storm shelter. Other projects would address campus maintenance and repairs
McDonald Middle School would expand its kitchen and cafeteria space to accommodate enrollment and address campus maintenance and updates.
The construction of a new Pre-K Center will help accommodate enrollment growth in the Horn feeder pattern. This campus would serve as a central location for early childhood learning and create space on the elementary campuses.

Consolidating Motley and Lawrence Elementary with a new campus would significantly reduce operational and maintenance costs. Both campuses were built in the 1960s. Motley has not been renovated in 24 years, while Lawrence Elementary’s last renovation was 30 years ago. These campuses are located near each other and currently operate below capacity. The combined enrollment of both schools is just over 500 students.
With enrollment over capacity, expanding Kimball Elementary would create additional classroom space to replace five portables and provide a storm shelter. The project would also address maintenance needs and foundation repairs.
Price Elementary, projected to reach capacity in the next four years, would gain additional classroom space, which would also serve as a storm shelter.
Built in 1987, the A.C. New Middle School restroom facilities need significant updates and improvements.
An expansion at North Mesquite High School would mark the first renovation since 2002, including updating the main entrance and foyer and expanding classroom space that would serve as a storm shelter. The additional space would also eliminate the need for 20 portable classrooms. Other key updates include replacing hot water boilers and fire alarm systems installed in the mid-and late 1980s.
Mesquite High School currently has 12 portable classrooms. Renovations at this campus would provide additional classroom space, an expanded fine arts area, and a storm shelter. Other maintenance and building updates would be addressed, including replacing a hot water boiler installed in 1967.
Expanding classroom space at Poteet High School would add a storm shelter and eliminate 11 portable classrooms. Last renovated in 2001, PHS would also receive other maintenance and repairs, including updates to the main entrance and foyer.
The Transportation Center, a 37-year-old facility, would expand and upgrade to eliminate the use of portables as office space and replace underground fuel tanks that have reached end-of-life cycles.
Lifecycle Replacements:Mesquite ISD has just over 180 buses, and 97 of those have been in service since 2013 or later. The district’s bus replacement cycle includes 15-20 new buses per year with an average cost of $1.9 - $2.7 million.
Mesquite ISD facilities have over 7 million square feet of roof surface. Because roofs have an average life expectancy between 18 and 22 years, the district invests in a roof replacement cycle of three to five buildings yearly at an average cost of $5 - 7.5 million.
There are approximately 3,500 classroom televisions across the district, and they are, on average, 8-10 years old. Prop B of the bond would provide $21.5 million to replace classroom technology and student and staff instructional devices.
